2025 LG polls: I will contest again to rescue Asalgans – Aspirant

By Mark Lenu

An aspirant for the 2025 local government poll in Rivers State, Hon. Seineri Onengiyeofori George says he will contest the forthcoming election in order to rescue his people from the oppressors who he described as incompetent representatives.

Seineri was a candidate of the Accord Party who contested the Asari-Toru Ward One Councillorship seat during the October 5. 2024 local government election in the state.

The former Accord candidate was believed to have lost the election, which produced the recently sacked chairmen and councillors on the grounds of rigging as he was among those who believed that the election was not free and fair.

The state Independent Electoral Commission said it would on Wednesday announce the date for the conduct of the forthcoming election to fill the vacuum created by the recent removal of the LG chairmen and councillors from office.

The Supreme Court had last Friday declared the 2024 LG election illegal, saying that the state electoral umpire did not obtain an updated voter register from INEC before going ahead to conduct the election.

Declaring his intention known before our correspondent, Seineri maintained that his interest in contesting again was to rescue his people.

He said: “Yes, I will contest the forthcoming local government election because my people deserve the best. Contesting happens to be the only way our people can be rescued from the oppressors.

“I am going into the race again to correct the wrongs, by taking over power from incompetent representatives.”

The aspirant is a philanthropist who has given scholarships and other economic empowerments to the people of the state, especially the Asalgans.
