By Tina Amanda

One person was reportedly killed on Saturday evening at the Gambia Street axis of Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt, following a violent supremacy battle between suspected members of the Castle and BloodStar factions of the Deygbam cult group.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering over six, first attacked their target with machetes, inflicting two deep cuts on his neck before shooting him in the head, leading to his death.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that another suspected cultist, covered in blood from machete wounds, was seen running to a patent medicine dealer (chemist) at Gambia Street on Saturday night to seek medical assistance.

Sources further disclosed that members of the Deygbam faction, whose member was killed, regrouped at a street in Mile 3, Diobu, allegedly planning a reprisal attack.

However, they reportedly dispersed upon sighting operatives of the Octopus Strike Force unit of the Nigeria Police, who responded to distress calls and intensified patrols in the area.

Efforts to get an official confirmation of the killing from Rivers State Police Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. However, multiple security sources confirmed the renewed cult clash in Diobu.
