NDDC Boosts Army Partnerships, Advances Girl-Child Education

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is actively reinforcing its commitment to national security and education in the region. At a recent meeting at its Port Harcourt headquarters, NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku met with General Officer Commanding Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah of the Nigerian Army’s 6th Division in Rivers State to reaffirm the Commission’s support for military operations and girl-child education.

During the visit, Ogbuku highlighted NDDC’s tangible efforts to boost security. He detailed recent contributions made to the Nigerian Army, noting that the Commission has already extended significant assistance to the 16th Brigade in Bayelsa. “Our commitment is unwavering,” Ogbuku declared, emphasizing the importance of these initiatives in stabilizing the region. The NDDC is now enhancing military facilities by upgrading Bori Camp with solar inverters to reduce fuel costs—a challenge that affects many federal agencies—and plans similar improvements at Elele Barracks.

The Commission’s support also extends to educational development. Ogbuku explained that NDDC is proactively addressing infrastructure needs within military communities. “We are furnishing the Command Secondary School at Eche and renovating the Command Children School at GRA in Port Harcourt,” he said. These projects aim not only to improve living conditions but also to bolster the overall operational efficiency of the armed forces, thereby contributing to a safer Niger Delta.

In parallel with its security initiatives, NDDC is investing in the future by empowering young girls through education. At a “Help the Girl Child” event held at Umuaka Secondary School in Abia State, Board Representative Chief Eruba Dimgba stressed that infrastructural development must go hand in hand with human capital growth. The program focuses on inspiring girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. In Akwa Ibom State, NDDC Representative Abasiandikan Nkono motivated students to overcome barriers and break stereotypes, reinforcing that education is the cornerstone of a progressive society.

Senior officials, including the Director of Education, Health, and Social Services, actively participated by providing hands-on demonstrations and sharing insights on the critical role of science in everyday life. Through mentorship and resource allocation, the NDDC ensures that the girl-child receives the encouragement and training needed to excel academically and professionally.

By bolstering military operations and investing in the education of young girls, the NDDC is taking a comprehensive approach to development. This dual strategy not only secures the region but also plants the seeds for a brighter future, ensuring that both national security and educational empowerment remain top priorities.
