Eneka Residents Beg Rivers Govt, OBALGA Chair As Flood Wreaks Havoc In Communities

Natives and residents of Rumuowha Community in Eneka clan of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, are begging the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and the LGA chairman, Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, to intervene in the flood situation that has ravaged the community.

According to them, the flood caused by the torrential rain fall has left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Mr. Nnamdi Oliver, a father of three children; a boy and two girls who spoke with The Port City News, when our correspondent visited the affected areas lamented over the havoc caused by the flood.

Oliver whose apartment was completely submerged explained that he had no where to go with his children.

His compound, sitting room, bedroom, kitchen and surrounding were all flooded as witnessed by our correspondent.

When asked why he had not vacated the place, he said, “where will I go, where will I run to? I don’t have money to rent a house that’s why I lift my bed with block so that we can see a place to sleep.

“This year makes me three years of living here. I experienced this thing last year, I thought that it’s a joke, I didn’t know that the thing will become something that will happen every year.

“Even last year own came early; around ending of August, September. I travelled before I came back armed robbers scattered my house, stole my AC, loot everything.

“This year after September we were happy that the flood will not come again, we didn’t know that the flood will come and it’s worse this year. My properties are affected and my greatest worry is my children. My son’s legs are already affected because of the bad water.”

Oliver pleaded with the state government to rescue them from the menace, adding that their lives were in danger.

“I beg government, leaders in Eneka to know what to do to rescue us. Inside this place people are suffering, some people water has gotten to their chest.

“With the situation of things now there is no money. We are begging the state government, indigenes of Eneka to come to our rescue. Thank God you witnessed it with your eyes, we don’t have anywhere to go to.”

Also, the youth president of Rumuowha Community, Mr. Progress Chukwu called for the immediate intervention of the LGA boss to salvage residents from the flood disaster.
