Atiku’s supporters reject Wike’s reapproval of Amiesimaka Stadium

Kelechi Esogwa-Amadi

Governor Nyesom Wike’s announcement of his reapproval of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for the presidential campaign rally of Atiku Abubakar has been rejected by supporters of Atiku in Rivers State.

They are demanding for an official letter from the Rivers governor permitting them to use the stadium as a guarantee of his sincerity on the reapproval.

According to them, Governor Wike’s sudden reapproval of the stadium for Atiku’s campaign on Saturday, February 11, 2023, with a mere word of mouth, after earlier revoking the initial permit he granted to them, gives room for suspicion of his real motive.

Spokesman of the Atiku Campaign Council in Rivers State, Lenonu Nwibubasa, made this known while speaking on Super FM Radio on Wednesday morning.

He said: “We see his (Wike’s) gift as a Greek gift. We have seen Governor Wike’s give and take and so we’re worried at this point whether we can trust him.

“However, if he can formerly write to the DG of Atiku Campaign in Abuja, the Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, we also want him to use the same medium to write us. It is our prerogative to accept or not.”

The Atiku Campaign Council spokesman in Rivers State condemned the arrest, criminalization and remanding of some Atiku’s supporters by the state government.

He described the Rivers State government’s action as pre-planned and pre-determined.

“The arrest of supporters of Atiku
Abubakar in Port Harcourt is pre-planned, pre-determined and their remanding them in custody is also a pre-determined action,” Nwibubasa said.

As at the time of writing this report, the Rivers State Government has not reacted to the comments by the spokesman of Atiku’s campaign council in Rivers State.

Whether Governor Nyesom Wike will agree to write an official letter to them to use the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on February 11, as they are demanding, remains to be seen by keen watchers.
