MOSIEND describes military invasion of Bille community as callous, unprofessional

Brave Dickson

The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality has joined in condemning the recent invasion of Bille community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State by soldiers.

The army authority who had claimed responsibility for the invasion said it was in retaliation of sea pirate attacks on soldiers manning the waterways in the area.

The military said the pirate attacks left some soldiers dead, adding that the assailants also carted away some military weapons and equipment.

Not happy with the invasion, the President of MOSIEND, Kenneth West told our correspondent that “Nigerian soldiers are fond of invading communities unprofessionally.

“We condemn the invasion of Bille community by soldiers and we are using this medium to warn the military to desist from this unprofessional and callous act on innocent communities.

“The people of Bille community had suffered insecurity for too long as a result of the inability of security agencies to protect their lives and property.

“We don’t want the military who had not been able to secure the Bille people to worsen their pains with callous and unprofessional invasion.”

The MOSIEND president also urged the military to tender public apology to the people of Bille community and stop forthwith, any attempt to unprofessionally invade the Bille community again.

You recall that same week the military raised alarm of pirate attacks on its personnel, a passenger boat en route Port Harcourt from Bille was also attacked leading to the killing of a father of 10 children, S. Igani.

The attack also injured the boat driver who according to a credible source is still receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
