2023: I’ll donate my monthly salary to Rivers women if elected – Lulu-Briggs

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party (AP) in Rivers State, Dumo Lulu-Briggs has declared that he would donate his monthly salary to Rivers women if elected governor in the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Lulu-Briggs said the decision is based on the fact that women were passing through hardship trying to raise responsible youths and future leaders of the nation.

He made the promise at the weekend when he led the state leadership and other candidates of AP to commission the party’s secretariat in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state.

The AP governorship candidate said that his government would be gender-friendly with 50 percent of women forming his cabinet.

According to him, he had chosen a woman as his running mate to prove that he can deliver his promises.

“Our mothers are too sacrificial, they like to give everything to us and take almost nothing. Women went to the National Assembly requesting participation in governance in way of 35 percent affirmative action. In our government, we shall give women 50 percent; in our government, we will not have women that will be just deputy chairmen of LGAs. We shall support women to aspire for chairmen of Local Government Areas.

“At the end of every month, my salary shall be donated to the women, local government by local government. Even as difficult as things are today, our mothers can manage to keep the homes; we still have homes today in difficult times and situations we find ourselves in because our mothers have kept the home.

“To show my support and value for women, my deputy is a woman from Ogoni extraction from Bani. Bani is the hometown of our late icon, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

“By choosing her, we have invoked the spirit of the Ogoni struggle. We shall remember the pains of our brother, the Ogoni people in our government. Bori has since remained a glorified municipal council. But, in our government, Bori shall be a city,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the party in the LGA, Kerry Briggs, said the commissioned AP campaign office would ensure an effective campaign with the main reason of delivering the party in the LGA in all elective positions in 2023.
