NASS transmits revised Electoral Act Bill to Buhari

The National Assembly says it has transmitted the re-amended Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2022 to the executive arm of government for President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, who said authenticated copies of the bill had been sent for the President’s assent.

Omoworare said the document was transmitted on 31st January 2022 by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr Olatunde Amos Ojo.

He noted that this was done following the provisions of Section 58 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Acts Authentication Act Cap. A2 LFN 2004.

Omoworare explained that after President Buhari withheld assent to the Electoral Bill 2021 transmitted to him on 19th November 2021, the Electoral Bill was reworked by the National Assembly and was passed on 25th January 2022.
