Nigeria’s representatives at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt kicked off their campaign on a losing note after falling zero-three to ASFAR of Morocco in their first Group B match of the tournament.

ASFAR’s Sanaa Mssoudi scored a hattrick to give the side the three maximum points after the game.

Sanaa Mssoudy while expressing happiness over her performance dedicates the victory to her late father.

“I’m very happy to be the first player to score a hat-trick in WCL, I dedicate it to my father who passed away”.

“My favorite goal of the hat-trick was the second one because I showed my capabilities and skills in it. It’s all due to my team’s efforts”.

Speaking to newsmen after the loss, Rivers Angels Coach Edwin Okon attributed the loss to tiredness from traveling issues.

Coach Edwin Okon, however, expressed optimism that the team will bounce back from their zero three loss to ASFAR of Morocco.

He said the team will bounce back in their next game against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa on Tuesday.

“The team is tired from all the traveling issues and that’s the normal result. My job is to pick up their spirit, let them know that the game is over, and recover for the next matches”.

In the meantime, the Coach of Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa Agnes Nkosi said the team is looking forward to another victory in the second group B game against Rivers Angels.

The South African Side defeated Vihiga Queens of Kenya one-nil to claim three maximum points.

One more win for Mamelodi Sundowns will push them through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

”It’s good for us to have the three points to get the confidence the players need for future matches. We could’ve changed the result today if we’d converted our chances into goals, but this is what we’ll work on,” she said.
