JOHESU threatens to embark on strike in Rivers

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) says it will soon embark on a National strike over the failure of government to implement reached agreement.

Rivers State Acting Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Oye Otaraku, who stated this in an interview with our correspondent, said the Union has since 2014 waited patiently for government to fulfill its part of the agreement.

According to him, strike action which is always the last option, remains the only language Nigerian government understands.

Comrade Otaraku, however, urged government to reconsider its steps by respecting collective bargained agreement in order to avert more disruption of health service delivery.

“The strike is actually a National one borne out of the fact that several agreement made with the Federal government is never effected overtime.

“JOHESU is agitating that those agreement should be implemented so her members can benefit from it. So, the failure of government to implement the collective agreement is the reason for the strike action.

“This issue of JOHESU resurfacing has been pending since 2014. JOHESU has been patient but government has not respected the Union’s issues, and keeps taking JOHESU situation for granted. Residents Doctors’ issues are rather more recent than JOHESU.

“If the only language government listens is strike, JOHESU would have no other option than to embark on a strike”.
