Family denies using IGP unit to demolish estate, grab land in Rivers

Tina Amanda

The family of Egonu of Rumuagholu Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has denied allegations that it is using Operatives of Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit in Aluu to grab land as alleged by residents and landlords of Royal Estate located behind former SARS premises.

TPCN had earlier reported some residents and landlords within Royal Estate led by EDWARD WONKWO-TASIE, alleging that EGONU was using the police outfit to take over their landed property without court orders which was also condenmed by some Human Rights Activities.

But Apostle BARTHOLOMEW EGONU, and KELVIN OMODU who is the family lawyer in reaction to the development, said the statements were mere allegations, stating that several court judgements have clarified that the area in dispute belongs to EGONU people.

EGONU and OMODU clarified that the area in dispute was Rumuagholu and not Rukpokwu as claimed, adding that those still living there were deceived by some land grabbers to acquire the property just as they commended the Inspector General of Police, the AIG in charge of zone 16, Bayesla, the Commissioner of Police in the state, JOSEPH MUKAN, and the Judiciary for the insistence on justice in the matter.

Our Correspondent reports that the Rumuagholu People went further to state that they want to clear the land in question because hoodlums in the area were using the forest as their hideout.
