We’ll not release Sowore to a mob….he might get knocked down by a vehicle – DSS

The Department of State Service (DSS), on Tuesday, said it would release detained Publisher of Sahara Reporter and former Presidential candidate of the AAC, Omoyele Sowore but would not release him to mobs.

Dr Peter Afunanya, the Spokesperson of the Service while addressing newsmen in Abuja, said that no credible person has come for him ever since as expected in a civilised society like Nigeria.

According to him, ”Since we received the court order on Sowore, no credible person has come for him, only what we have been seeing are mobs, placards carrying groups and protesters, trying to force themselves into our facilities to free Sowore.

”Even Chief Femi Falana has not visited this office since this issue of the bail started, the unfortunate thing is that Falana who is a very good friend of our DG has not even come or made a phone call to raise the issue with him, but what we are hearing is different.”

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on the 4th of October granted Sowore 150 million naira bail.

Justice Ojukwu also barred Sowore and Bakare from addressing any rally pending the conclusion of their trial on charges of treasonable felony among others.

She also barred Sowore from traveling out of Abuja and the second defendant out of Osogbo, during the trial.

She granted bail to Sowore in the sum of N100m with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be resident in Abuja must also have landed assets worth the bail sum in Abuja, and would deposit the original title documents of the assets with the court.

However, Sowore’s lawyer complained that the conditions are stringent and prayed the court to vary them.

On October 21, the conditions of the bail were reviewed and varied but the service refused to release Sowore, saying that his sureties should come for him.
