The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Government and leader of the task force against illegal parking and street trading, Bright Amaewhule, has accused the Local Government Chairmen of Obio-Akpor, Solomon Eke; Eleme, Philip Okpraji; and Port Harcourt, Victor Ihunwo of frustrating the efforts of the state task force team.
Amaewhule also accused the LGA chairmen of supporting illegal task force teams to frustrate the efforts of his team.
He said that his team had come under attack several times by LGA sponsored task force, especially in Eleme where members of his team were assaulted.
But in swift reactions, the LGA chairmen of Obio-Akpor and Eleme denied sponsoring task force teams to scuttle the efforts of the state government task force.
They, however, pledged their support to the task force set up by the state government.
The Rivers State Task Force team has explained how they operate and how to identify the fake task force.
According to the state government task force team:
1. They only use White colour Hilux Ford.
2. They are not permitted to impound vehicles.
3. Their duty, for now, is to sensitize the public on the nature of their work.
4. They are not to harass anyone.
5. They don’t use Tow-Vans.
6. Ther target is basically to clear street traders from the streets
7. To clear bus and taxi drivers from parking at the wrong points.
