There was palpable tension in Rumuekpe, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State as gunmen on Monday evening killed two persons.
Theportcitynews gathered from sources that the killings were a result of a disagreement between two rival cult groups in the area.
A community source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the killings on Monday sent ripples of shock through the community, adding that the killers came from neighbouring communities to carry out the attack.
The Police in Rivers State has not reacted to the killing, though another source told our correspondent that the community chiefs met on Tuesday morning in a bid to douse the growing tension.
He said: “It is a cult-related killing. The police in Emohua was called to evacuate the lifeless bodies and deposit them to the mortuary.
“The chiefs and youth leaders have met in a bid to douse tension. People are going about their normal business” he added.
