Murdered Choba CDC chairman: Police did not respond to distress calls -Family

The family of Mr Lawrence Igwe, the Community Development Committee Chairman of Choba community who was murdered on Sunday in factional youth leadership battle said several distress calls made to the police were not responded to.

A family member who spoke to journalists on Monday at the family’s house expressed disappointment with the police, adding had they responded to distress calls made to them, his death would have been averted.

The family source said that much success recorded by the assailants during their dastard operation was due to the inability of the police to respond to distress.

She urged the force to bring the killers of Mr Lawrence to book.

Meanwhile, calm has returned to Choba Community following the killing of the CDC chairman and the traditional chief priest of the community, Chief Orji early on Sunday morning.

Theportcitynews correspondent reports that shops were open for business while traffic was flowing freely.

Police vehicles were also seen patrolling the community in a bid to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Although, residents who relocated to nearby communities have expressed fear over the possibility of their return, with most saying that the security issue in the community has metamorphosed into terrorism.
