Women from Alakahia community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Monday, took to the streets to protest the arrest of their newly elected Paramount ruler, Eze Vincent Igwe.

Eze Igwe who was said to have been elected on Friday after all necessary traditional consultations by the elders of the community were carried out, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday by detectives from State Criminal Investigative Department.

The arrest, theportcitynews gathered, is not unconnected to the legal tussle over the traditional stool.

The protesting women in their black attires, said the protest was staged in order to draw the attention of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for what they claimed to be an illegal arrest of a traditional ruler.

The aggrieved women lamented that the police did not invite the monarch before carrying out such action against a traditional ruler, while urging the police to release Eze Vincent Igwe in the interest of peace.

On his part, Udochi Igwe, the first son of Eze Vincent Igwe, expressed sadness over the arrest, adding that his father should be released unconditionally by the police, while calling on the state government to intervene.
