NEMA advises 11 Rivers LGAs to prepare for flooding

The national body in charge of emergency responses, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on Sunday, advised 11 local government areas in Rivers State to prepare for an impending flood.

NEMA also advised the LGAs to identify the designated internally displaced persons’ camps in the state.

Walson Brandin, the south-south zonal coordinator of NEMA, said in Port Harcourt that the affected local government areas include Abia/Odua, Oyigbo, Okrika, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Ogu/Bolo, Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, Bonny, Port Harcourt City and Opopo-Nkoro.

He explained that the recent forecast by the Nigerian Metrological Agency showed that 11 local government areas of Rivers state would are prone to severe flooding, adding that the flood expected this year would be more serious than that of last year.
