Another series pirates attacks have been unleashed on passengers traveling from Bille kingdom in Degema local government area to Portharcourt through the water ways.

This comes barely one week after pirates launched series of attacks on travellers on the Bille waterways.

Passengers said they were attacked at about 5:30 pm on Friday while approaching the new Calabar river off the sea by six armed men on Civil Defence uniforms.

According to one of the victims, David Elisha, the pirates chased their boats with sporadic gunshots and dislogded them of their belongings and made away with the two boats conveying passengers to Port Harcourt and leaving them helpless on the sea.

Elisha stressed that they were left stranded at the mangrove till 7pm before a rescue team came to move them to a nearby village.

He further called on government and all security agencies to intervene on the pirate menace on Bille waterways.

Reacting to the pirate attack, the Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said the command will deploy additional gunboat to Bille waterways to stop the reoccurring pirate attacks on Bille commuters.
