Police kill 5 kidnappers in Rivers State

The Police Command in Rivers State says its men have killed 5 notorious kidnappers.

The police also said that they have arrested suspected kidnappers terrorising the state.

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters, commissioner of police Usman Balel said the arrest was a fall out of sustained efforts to tackle armed banditry in the state.

He said men of the IGP monitoring unit led by SP ADAKA JUSTIN during a string operation and a follow up of a kidnapped case stormed a criminal hideout at ENEKA in Obio/Akpor Local government area where a gang of kidnappers were hibernating and on sighting the police the hoodlums opened fire and wounded two policemen but in return five of criminals were fatally wounded and were taken to the University of Port Harcourt teaching hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctors at UPTH.

He said the deceased armed robbers are members of an armed gang responsible for all the criminal activities at ENEKA and its environs

Recall that three weeks ago a criminal gang had opened fire on football lovers at a viewing center in Eneka killing scores of innocent residents and leaving several persons with gunshot injuries.

CP BALEL said the camp of the criminals were destroyed and the under listed exhibits recovered from the hoodlums:

They are 1) one AK47 rifle, two magazine loaded with 13live ammunition, one locally made revolver gun, two pump action guns, eight different phones, assorted charms and armlets and three machetes

He said efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang.
