Breaking: 100 level UNIPORT Student commits suicide

A 100 level student of the University of Port Harcourt has committed suicide.

Hilkmat Gbadamosi, a student of the institution in the Department of Chemical Engineering, took her own life due to a terminal illness she has been suffering from birth.

Neighbours said she consumed two bottles of a poisonous substance leading to her death.

In a short video that is now trending online, she was seen complaining that the pain has refused to go away, although she clearly did not specify the cause of the pain.

However, other sources said she committed suicide because her boyfriend left her.

Classmates said she did not turn up in school on Monday and so did not take part in the test that they wrote. They added that calls to her phone did not through.

Neighbour said she might have died since Saturday as they did not see her on Sunday and on Monday afternoon.

They said that the caretaker of her lodge after knocking on her door for hours without an answer on Monday evening, climbed a ladder and peeped through her window only to discover her decomposing body.

They subsequently reported the incident to the police who broke into the room and evacuated the body.

William Wordi, the University’s public relations officer could not be reached for comments on the matter.

Her body has been deposited to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
