The National Industrial Court sitting in Port Harcourt has upheld the election of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Rivers State council held last year July.

This follows the decision of the court to turn down the request of one of the contestants OBED UMAH to nullify the election that brought in STANLEY JOB as the chairman.

OBED UMAH had gone to court to seek for the nullification of the NUJ election held in July 2018 over his alleged disqualification from the election.

The Presiding Judge Justice POLYCARP HAMAN while delivering the judgment said that OBED UMAR failed to present the receipt of purchase of nomination form for the election.

The judge also ruled that OBED UMAR did not attach the list where his name was omitted to the court.

Our correspondent reports that STANLEY JOB was elected on July 12, 2018, after polling 124 votes to win the election.

In the meantime, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Rivers State Council, STANLEY JOB said the court verdict has affirmed his victory at the polls.

STANLEY JOB said he got the mandate of the journalists during the elections last year.

He, however, call on aggrieved members of the union to join hands with his administration to move the union forward.

OBED UMAR while reacting on the court judgment said he will now focus his attention on contributing his quota for the benefit of the union.
He said that he went to court to seek redress over his alleged omission from the list of contestants during the election.
