The Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Mr Marshal Israel has called on the drug law enforcement agency to device other means in curbing and curtailing the alarming rate of drug abuse and addiction in streets, primary and secondary Schools in Rivers State.

Speaking at an interactive session with the State Commander and Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday 19th February 2019 at the Port Harcourt Office, the PCC boss stated that “Today, tramadol is like pure water on our streets. We are gradually losing our young generation to drugs” He also noted that “The issue of drug abuse and addiction is very alarming in our streets, primary and secondary schools. Arrest and prosecution alone cannot solve the problem”

He, therefore, called on the State commander and officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to use the approach of creating awareness and campaigns against drug abuse.

He also noted that arrest and prosecution alone cannot solve the problem, noting that the PCC is ready to collaborate and partner with the agency.

On his part, the State Commander promised to adopt the new approach in ensuring that drug abuse and addiction is eradicated from the streets and schools in Rivers State.
