Gender and Development Action (GADA) has condemned the action that led to the death of some women at the All Progressive Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign rally in Rivers State.

Programme Officer for the NGO Eunice Okah stated this during a sensitization walk to educate women on their right to participate in every election.

According to her, the stampede was avoidable stressing that safety measures should always be put in place to ensure women are secured in every political event, adding that women who have faced violence directly or indirectly in elections in the past may be scared to come out and vote.

She said the continuous violence against women during elections will hinder them from achieving their full potentials in politics, stressing that women participation in the democratic process brings real benefit to Nigeria’s growth.

She disclosed that about 50 persons have been trained and mobilized to each LGA as response protocols that will attend to women in case of any violence during elections.

She, however, urged women to come out and exercise their franchise
