Ogonis give FG 5-day ultimatum to re-instate Mene as NDDC EDFA

The people of Ogoni ethnic nationality have given the APC led federal government a 5-day ultimatum to re-instate Mr Derek Mene as Director, Finance and Administration, Niger Delta Development Communication Board or risk losing their votes during the forthcoming elections.

The threat was contained in a resolution reached by the people at the end of their 2019 extraordinary Ogoni General Assembly meeting held in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoni.

Convener of the meeting and founder, Conscience of Ogoni People, Chief Gani Topba viewed the sack of Mr Mene from the NDDC board as political and insult on the Ogonis.

“The way and manner Mr Derek Mene was removed from office show an attempt to politically marginalize Ogoni people. Mr Derek Mene’s tenure has not elapsed and the position he held at the NDDC board is Ogoni’s slot.

“Our concern is, if they don’t like Derek Mene for political reasons, why not still look for another Ogoni son or daughter to replace him?

“We will not keep quiet. We will show APC that we have a stake at the ballot. We will not vote for APC in February 16 and March 2 if Mr Mene is not re-stated or replaced with someone from Ogoni” Chief Topba said.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari a week ago approved the appointment of Mr Charles Amadi as the new Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission.

The appointment has witnessed widespread condemnation by the Ogoni people who viewed it as very unfair.

Some concerned groups had written letters to the presidency to rescind its decision on the appointment.
