Man bleeds to death after hospital refused him treatment over N25k deposit

A 39-year-old man, on Monday, died from excess bleeding after a hospital in Port Harcourt refused to treat him unless an initial deposit of 25, 000 was made.

The Victim, Progress Dennis, from Usokun in Degema Local Government Area was stabbed severally while on his way back from an event on Monday morning.

However, when taken to Datta Medical Center, a private clinic at Woji road at Rumuruolu, the hospital reportedly demanded an initial deposit of 25, 000 before they would stop the bleeding.

Sources said friends transferred a sum of 30, 000 to the hospital but the management insisted on receiving the transaction alert before they could attend to his wounds. He bled out and died a few minutes later.

His death caused widespread anger on social media on Tuesday with residents calling for the picketing of the hospital.

Others like comedian Kobaba and Bobby Rak called on residents to stop patronizing the hospital over their insensitivity.

Another resident who spoke to theportcitynews said he lost a niece and a sibling due to the negligence of the said hospital.
