An unknown number of persons have been killed, Thursday evening, as a fuel tanker fell and exploded along Eleme/Onne axis of the East-West road.

The petrol tanker fell on the ground and went up in flames.

Theportcitynews gathered that the driver of the tanker, which was loaded with fuel lost control of the vehicle after one of the front tyres entered a pothole.

Sources who spoke to theportcitynews on Thursday evening said that an unspecified number of persons died in the inferno.

Another source said only two persons died from the explosion.

Theportcitynews contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, who told us he has not been briefed on the development.

Omoni, however, said he will contact the refinery DPO to ascertain what happened in the area.

Recall that similar incident happened when a tanker loaded with fuel burst into flames after the driver lost control while driving along Eliozu Express road around 5 am on Thursday, August 10.

The explosion destroyed properties worth millions of Naira, though there were no casualties, but an Event and Catering Center worth over N500 million was burnt.
