A Human Right Activist and Port Harcourt based travel Journalist, Patrick .B. Naagbanton has urged Politicians to withdraw supports for cult gangs so as to end cultism in the state.
Naagbanton stated this during an interview with Journalists at the Public Presentation of Volume 1 and 2 of the books, “FOOTPRINTS OF NKPOO SIBARA,DELE GIWA AND KEN SARO WIWA” by Patrick .B.Naagbanton as edited by Dr.Alfred Charles of Department of Political Science ,Federal University, Wukari, Taraba state, Nigeria.
He noted that “If the Politicians withdraw their support , these guys will not have the money to acquire arms and unleash violence in the society”.
According to him, Government must provide qualitative Education in the primary levels (Primary and secondary) for her citizens according to the United Nations convention which Nigeria is part of.
“ To do that, the Government needs to increase the budget for education and also monitor how money is spent , that is what We are advocating for”.
He also praised the late Ogoni environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, saying that he is a man of many parts.
According to him “Ken Saro Wiwa is a man of Many parts, Ken Saro Wiwa typifies Journalism and literature, so what MOSOP is doing is looking at the activism side of Saro Wiwa whereas some of us are looking at the Journalistic and literary side, that is why We had to organize things like this”.
He said “this is a way of celebrating not only Saro Wiwa but people like Dele Giwa and others who died for the cause of fighting for humanity all over the world”.
In his remark, the Editor of the book, Dr Alfred Charles said “We need to put our history together and document it. As a people, we have all failed but the book is a salvation for one of our failures”.
