The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Obio/Akpor Constituency 2, Chief Alex Wele has lamented the undue neglect of the flooded axis of Nkpolu Community, along the East-West road in Port Harcourt.

Wele also berated the State Government over its nonchalant posture towards taking measures that will enable displaced traders and residents go back to their homes and businesses.

Chief Wele who visited the area shortly after security agents gunned down a protesting youth, Mr Alechi Woko, said: “It is unfortunate that the Rivers State Government has failed to address the menacing flood that has sacked both traders and residents in this area thereby, crippling all forms of economic activities within the area.

“If the Government had been responsive enough to the plights of the citizens, it would have addressed the flood issue which necessitated the protest and the eventual loss of life would have been averted.

“This Community has been sacked by inundation for too long, yet the Government has remained unconcerned about the situation. The government must learn to wake up to its responsibilities.”

Speaking further, the APC House of Assembly Candidate, also condoled with the family of Mr Alechi Woko who was murdered during the protest, saying it was an avoidable loss.

He prayed God to grant the family the strength and firmness of mind to bear the loss.
