A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail in the tune of N30 million to four persons for child trafficking and child stealing.
The accused persons were paraded a week ago by the Rivers State police command.
In her ruling, Justice Amaka Amanze granted the application for bail by the counsel to the suspects.
The judge stated that the guarantor must be a first-class chief and must have landed property within Port Harcourt metropolis.
Speaking after the hearing, the chairperson of The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State chapter, Mrs Anthonia Osademe praised the judgement.
According to her, “since they are in court today and they have been arraigned, we will ensure that justice is done in this case.
“We will follow the matter up to a logical conclusion and see how justice will be done and also see that the appropriate thing is done for those pregnant women and the children by the appropriate authority”.
She said the 16 pregnant women were discovered at a maternity home in Port Harcourt and the owner was arrested.
