Flooding: Rivers House of Assembly writes Buhari over marginalization

The Rivers State House of Assembly has condemned the noninclusion of the state in the list of flood-affected states to benefit from the 3 billion naira intervention flooding fund by the Federal Government.

The state assembly also condemned the recall of Paris club refund given to Rivers state by the federal government .

This follows a motion presented on the floor of the house by the Majority leader, Martin Amaewhule .

Martin Amaewhule, the lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor constituency 1 who led the debate said the Federal government is playing vindictive politics.

Members during the debate which include Wanaka Okpokiri of Ahaoda West, Nathaniel Uwaji of ONELGA Constituency II and Evans Bipi, at an emergency session, called on the house to write President Muhammadu Buhari to include the state in the list of states to benefit from the intervention fund and as well reverse the Paris club fund recall.

Speaking after the debates, Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Owaji Ibani said the House will write to President Mohammadu Buhari informing him of what they termed the ‘marginalization of Rivers state’.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state House of Assembly has screened and confirmed two commissioner designates on the floor of the house

This follows a letter from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to screen and confirm Leloonu Nwibubasa and Zachious Adango as commissioners and members of the state executive.

The speaker, Rivers state house of Assembly, Ikunyi Owaji Ibani, confirmed the commissioner designates.

Meanwhile, Lelonu Nwibubasa during a chat with journalists after the confirmation promised to work towards effective service delivery.
