Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray defeated city rivals Fenerbahçe 2-1 in a thrilling Istanbul derby at RAMS Park on Monday night.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a pass from Barış Alper Yılmaz with a powerful effort to give the hosts the lead.
Osimhen doubled Galatasaray’s advantage five minutes before half-time, heading the ball into the net after Davinson Sánchez’s effort inside the penalty area to put the home side firmly in control.
Fenerbahçe responded after the break and reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute through İrfan Can Kahveci, who finished with an acrobatic effort to give the visitors hope of rescuing a point.
However, Galatasaray held on despite late pressure from their rivals to secure all three points.
The victory lifted Galatasaray back to the top of the Turkish Süper Lig standings with 22 points from nine matches, while Fenerbahçe remained on 16 points.
Osimhen’s brace further strengthened his influence in Galatasaray’s attack. The 27-year-old has now registered six goals and three assists in six league appearances this season, according to the figures provided.
The Super Eagles forward will look to maintain his scoring form as Galatasaray continue their domestic campaign.
