The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Prof. Mohamed Janabi, has said Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases following the medical evacuation of the infected patient and her husband to Switzerland.
Janabi disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, confirming that the pair, both Swiss citizens, were evacuated by air ambulance earlier in the day.
He said the patient was clinically stable after receiving treatment from Nigerian medical personnel, who successfully managed her through the acute phase of the illness.
“The Nigerian medical team successfully managed her through the acute phase of the illness and stabilised her condition,” Janabi said.

He commended the Federal Government, healthcare workers, clinicians, emergency responders and other partners for their role in managing the case.
Describing the response as a significant achievement, the WHO official said it demonstrated Africa’s capacity to address public health emergencies through collaboration and local expertise.
Despite the evacuation, Janabi stressed the need for continued vigilance, noting that Nigeria would maintain close follow-up of 52 identified contacts.
Switzerland, he said, would assume responsibility for the continued management of the patient and monitoring of her husband, who was identified as contact number 53.
“With the evacuation of the patient and her husband, Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases,” he stated.
Janabi congratulated all those involved in the response, describing the outcome as a demonstration of African expertise, resilience and leadership in public health.
