Nigeria’s Super Falcons will aim to secure their place in the third round of the African qualifying series for the 2028 Olympic Games when they face Comoros in the return leg of their second-round tie on Tuesday.
The 10-time African champions head into the encounter with a 2–0 advantage following Friday’s first-leg victory at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, where defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu scored.
Nigeria are seeking to qualify for a second consecutive Olympic Games women’s football tournament after returning to the competition at Paris 2024, their first appearance in 16 years.
Comoros’ inability to secure a Confederation of African Football-approved venue for international matches has reportedly resulted in both legs being played in Nigeria, with Tuesday’s return fixture also scheduled for Ikenne-Remo.
With a two-goal cushion, the Super Falcons’ technical crew could use the encounter to assess other players while seeking to complete the job and advance to the next round.
Chiamaka Nnadozie started in goal in Friday’s match, protected by a defensive unit featuring wing-backs Glory Ogbonna and Alozie, with Christy Ucheibe and Shukurat Oladipo operating as centre-backs.
Debutant Joy Igbokwe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini featured in midfield, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday and Kanu led the attack.
The coaching crew could consider changes for the return leg, with young goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma among the players who could be given an opportunity. Farida Abdulwahab and Tumininu Adeshina are also options in defence.
Suliat Abideen, who impressed after coming on in the second half of Friday’s encounter, could also be considered for a starting role.
In attack, former Nigeria Under-17 captain Shakirat Moshood and Folashade Ijamilusi are potential options, alongside Belarus-based duo Blessing Nkor and Blessing Okpe, as well as Sweden-based forward Joy Omewa.
Victory would send Nigeria into the third round, where they are scheduled to face Morocco in March 2027.
The Super Falcons will be keen to build on their first-leg advantage and remain on course for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
