The Super Eagles have intensified preparations for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia, with 19 players now in camp in Nizhny Novgorod.
Nigeria’s preparations have been affected by injuries and the refusal of some clubs to release players for the fixture, forcing head coach Éric Chelle to work with a largely reshaped squad.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi and defender Victory Akpe were ruled out through injury, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika and Ridwan Abdulrasaq Popoola were prevented from travelling by their respective clubs.
The latest boost to the squad came with the arrival of FC Rostov midfielder Ibraheem Ajasa, who joined the team on Monday to increase the camp strength to 19 players.
The Super Eagles are expected to hold their final training session later on Monday as they conclude preparations for the encounter.
Nigeria will face Russia at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
The friendly presents another opportunity for Chelle to assess several emerging players while seeking a positive response following the Super Eagles’ recent 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Experienced stars Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Stanley Nwabali and Kelechi Iheanacho are expected to play leading roles in the youthful squad.
Several newcomers will also be hoping to impress and stake a claim for future national team opportunities.
