Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of a young lady whose body was retrieved from a stream in Ogoda Community, Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The suspects were arrested following the recovery of the body of the victim found in a stream near the rural community after security agents and local government officials were alerted to the development, reports Channels.
The Traditional Ruler of Ogoda Community, Chief Obutu Tom, said he first heard of the incident on September 12 while in Port Harcourt.
According to him, he was informed that about five young men had abducted the victim from Ahoada Minta in Ahoada East LGA and brought her to Ogoda where she was killed and her body thrown in a stream.

Chief Tom said he reported the matter to the police on his return to the community after initial investigation.
He said the interventions of community leaders and security agencies led to the successful retrieval of the body on September 19, 2026.
“…the security men, the Ahoada East Chairman, the Ahoada West Chairman, and other prominent people moved down to Ogoda community. Without minding anything, we went into the swamp, and finally recovered the corpse floating on the water,” he said.
Speaking on the development, the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Eugene Epelle, revealed that two young men had been arrested in connection with the incident and said they were being investigated.
Epelle said the arrest of the two suspects was following the information gathered by his people linking them to the incident.
The LGA boss also condemned the killing and vowed to bring the perpetrator to law ensuring justice will be delivered.
“This is the first time, to my surprise, that something like this has happened since I assumed office. That is why I will not take it kindly. I will make sure we get to the root of this matter. By all means, anyone found involved will face the law of the land,” he said.
Meanwhile, the chairman said he was confident that the police would handle the case with the seriousness it deserved and said he would personally see that the case would not be left at the investigation stage.
“This matter will not end with investigation alone — it will go to court. We will fight for justice for this young lady. We believe in justice,” Epelle said.
He also assured residents that the local government was working with security agencies to ensure the safety of residents.
“I want to assure you all that it will be a priority for me to ensure security in the area,” he said.
