INEC Publishes Final List of 18 Presidential, Vice-Presidential Candidates for 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has put forward the final list of the candidates vying to be presidents and vice-presidents in the 2027 general elections.

This list was signed by the INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony. It made up of 18 candidates for the post of presidents and vice-presidents from different political parties.

These include the president of Nigeria Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); the former vice-president Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC); Oluseyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and former Cross River State governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

There are also other presidential aspirants such as Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje from the Action Alliance, Abbas-Bin Aliyu from the Action Democratic Party, Yusuf Kabiru from the Action Peoples Party, Omoyele Sowore from the African Action Congress, Sunday Adenuga from the Boot Party, Adebisi Olusoji from the Democratic Labour Alliance, Sunday Okereke from the Labour Party, Adewole Adebayo from the Social Democratic Party, Peter Agada from the Young Progressive Party, and Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu from the Zenith Labour Party.

The list further includes two female presidential candidates namely Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori from the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke from the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

There are four females who have been listed as candidates for the position of the vice-president in the country. These are Peace Egobia from the Action Peoples Party (APP), Nafisat Usaku from the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), Hajja Konto from the Labour Party (LP), and Patience Key from the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

It is evident from the reviews that none of the presidential and vice presidential candidates has declared any disability.

The age of the presidential candidates ranges from 35 to 79, while that of the vice-presidential candidates ranges from 35 to 80 years.

The oldest presidential candidate is Mr Atiku at the age of 79 years, and he is followed by Mr Tinubu, aged 74 years. The youngest presidential candidate is Moses Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance at 35 years.

The document is published by INEC after the conduct of the primary election conducted by the various political parties between 23 April and 30 May 2026.

These elections will be conducted on a new schedule which is due to the amendment brought by the Electoral Act 2026.

The presidential and National Assembly elections will be conducted on Saturday, 16 January 2027, while governors and State Houses of Assembly members will be elected on 6 February 2027.
