Rivers NDC Seeks Justice Over Attack on Secretariat

Condemnations have continued to trail the vandalisation of the secretariat and campaign billboards of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The secretariat was vandalise by suspected hoodlums, who also destroyed the party’s billboard mounted at C4i, close to Choba Bridge.

This development was confirmed by the party’s LGA chairman, in a viral video, where he also condemned the attack and destruction of the party’s properties.

Also, the NDC Candidate, Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Chief Fugbara Goodluck Ohaka, also condemned the incident and charged security agencies to thoroughly investigate it.

According to Ohaka, “I condemn the attack on the NDC Secretariat in Emohua. I am deeply concerned and saddened by the reported attack on our NDC Party Secretariat in Emohua Local Government Area, including the destruction of our billboards and campaign banners.

“I strongly condemn these acts. Political differences should never become a reason for violence, intimidation, or destruction of property.

“We may have different political opinions, but we are all brothers and sisters, and the peace of our communities must remain our collective priority.

“I sincerely appeal to our members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful. We will not be provoked into taking the law into our own hands. Our response must continue to be guided by maturity, restraint, and respect for the law.

“I equally call on the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and fish out those responsible for the destruction of our party property, billboards, and banners. Anyone found culpable should be made to face the law.”

He appealed that “as we approach the 2027 elections, I believe strongly that our politics should be about ideas, development, service, and the welfare of our people—not violence or destruction.

“Elections will come and go, but our communities and relationships will remain. Let us therefore choose peace, tolerance, and responsible political engagement.

“I remain committed to a peaceful, issue-based, and people-centred campaign.”

On his part, the LGA chairman described NDC stakeholders, candidates and members as law abiding and peaceful, insisting that only one party cannot exist in the state.

He explained that, “this morning I was called by the secretary in-charge of the NDC office, Emohua Local Government Area that our office has been destroyed, all the billboards have been destroyed. Alot of properties in the office have been destroyed.

“NDC stakeholders, members and candidates are very peaceful. We have never looked for anybody’s trouble but we have seen what opposition is doing to our party. They want to monopolise all political parties in Emohua, including NDC, they have started again.

“I am saying it to government agencies and security agencies that we cannot continue to tolerate this, we will investigate and justice must prevail.”
