KAGOTE President Pledges N20m to Ken-Poly, Rewards First-Class Ogoni Graduates

The President of KAGOTE, Chief Lesi Maol, has pledged N20 million to the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, as part of efforts to promote education, human capital development and academic excellence in Ogoniland.

Maol pledged this while announcing additional financial incentives for outstanding graduating students of the institution.

He disclosed a N2 million cash reward for the Best Graduating Science Student at the Polytechnic’s 18th–25th Convocation ceremony.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at motivating young people in Ogoniland to pursue excellence in science, technology and other disciplines considered vital to the development of the region.

The KAGOTE president also announced a N1 million reward for every Ogoni student who graduates with First Class honours.

He said the beneficiaries would receive the financial awards at a special dinner to be organised in their honour.

Maol said the interventions were driven by his conviction that education remained a critical tool for individual advancement, economic empowerment and community development.

He stressed the need for sustained investment in young people through education, skills acquisition and programmes that promote hard work and academic excellence.

According to him, the quality of human capital available in Ogoniland would significantly influence the region’s future development, making it necessary to create more opportunities for young people to acquire relevant knowledge and skills.

The latest commitment adds to Maol’s previous interventions in the education sector, including increased support for schools through the engagement of additional teachers.

Over the years, he has supported several education and youth development initiatives across Ogoniland, including the Lesi Maol Annual University Tuition Scholarship, the Lesi Maol-sponsored Ogoni Secondary Schools Science Quiz Competition and the Lesi Maol-sponsored Ogoni Secondary School Football Tournament.

Earlier this year, Maol donated N100 million, a school bus and a 50KVA generating set to the Federal University of Environment and Technology during the institution’s inaugural matriculation ceremony, where he served as Chairman of the Occasion.

The latest pledge to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, alongside the financial rewards for outstanding graduates, is expected to strengthen support for the institution and encourage students across Ogoniland to pursue higher academic standards and excellence.
