Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) has reaffirmed its support for Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, particularly his efforts toward promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in the state.
The group also called on political leaders, stakeholders and political actors to support genuine initiatives aimed at consolidating lasting peace across Rivers State.
The women made the call on Thursday during their August Praise and Thanksgiving programme held at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, where the theme was “Peace Be Still!”
Speaking at the event, Convener of RWUS, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Fulton, said peace remained the strongest foundation for development, economic growth and social harmony.
Fulton commended Governor Fubara for what she described as purposeful leadership and his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through the execution and completion of projects across the state.
She noted that investments in roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure were improving connectivity, opening up communities, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the welfare of residents.
She also commended the peace and reconciliation initiatives involving Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, as well as the Rainbow Coalition for sustaining dialogue and reconciliation efforts.
Fulton urged political actors to place the collective interest of Rivers State above personal ambitions, stressing that a peaceful environment was necessary to attract investments, create employment opportunities and accelerate infrastructure and human capital development.
She further encouraged women and youths across the state to obtain and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them to participate effectively in the 2027 general elections.,
Also speaking, Dr. Priye Oarhe led the congregation in an exhortation and charge centred on peace.
