The Federal Government and Rivers State Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism, arts, culture and the creative economy.
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, signed for the Federal Government, while Permanent Secretary of the Rivers Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Barr. Tomonialadeokuma Ishmael, signed for the state.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara said the deal fits his administration’s plan to grow the economy beyond roads and hospitals by investing in tourism and hospitality.
He pointed to Andoni’s beaches, wildlife and the ongoing Oyorokoto road as key assets. Recent online images, he noted, already show elephants and other animals along the new corridor, highlighting strong ecotourism prospects.
According to him, A public-private tourist beach project is under way, with the first phase due to open by December.

“If we cannot go to Dubai, let us build our own Dubai in Rivers State. If we cannot go to Spain or Qatar, let us create our own tourism destination here,” Fubara said.
He promised visible results within four months and said Rivers would support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Cultural Project.
The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, said the ministry was created to diversify the economy and create jobs.
She described Rivers as a “low-hanging fruit” because of its international flight links, existing facilities and rich culture, adding that the partnership would help position the state as a major tourism and creative hub.
