There have been ongoing activities by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Rivers State that will last for a week, intending to enhance compliance with road safety rules by the transport and commercial drivers within the state.
This exercise, which commenced recently, forms part of the 2026 Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS) Enforcement Week that is currently being conducted across the country.

Addressing reporters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Francis Ajatta, explained the purpose behind the exercise.
In his explanation, he pointed out that the main emphasis of this operation lies on three key areas: safe driving, vehicle safety, and adherence by operators. As stated by him, officers would be observing transport firms and motorists to see whether they adhere to the specified safety standards.
According to Ajatta, some of the offences that are being targeted during this exercise include non-registration by RTSSS, absence of passenger manifest, overloading, speeding, dangerous driving, use of expired licenses, and bad vehicle conditions such as worn-out tyres.
It is noteworthy that the exercise has been designed to encourage safe driving and not punish motorists.
The FRSC official urged all the fleet owners, commercial drivers, school bus operators, and other road users to work hand-in-hand with the authorities and adhere to the safety regulations.
Furthermore, he stressed that road safety is everybody’s business and appealed to all people to report any unsafe driving to the respective authorities.
The official reiterated the FRSC’s willingness to make the roads safe for the citizens through constant enforcement of rules and awareness campaigns.
FRSC hoped that the campaign would assist in reducing road accidents and ensuring safety on the highways.
