President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted from Oriire Community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending Nigeria’s security agencies for their coordinated operation that secured their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as a professional, intelligence-led operation that rescued the victims without collateral damage.
According to the Presidency, the operation also led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were neutralised during the rescue mission.
President Tinubu acknowledged the emotional trauma endured by the abducted children, their teachers, their families, and Nigerians throughout the prolonged ordeal, describing the successful rescue as a moment of relief for the nation.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation,” the President said.
He added that the operation brought an end to more than 50 days of uncertainty and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.
The President also vowed that those responsible for the abduction would face the full weight of the law, including justice for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the abductors during the incident.
President Tinubu further commended the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government throughout the rescue efforts and urged the state to strengthen security measures around schools to prevent similar incidents.
He also directed relevant emergency response agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government to provide the rescued children and teachers with necessary medical care, psychosocial support, and other relief services.
The successful rescue marks a significant breakthrough in the government’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and improve security across the country.
