The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected David Okumgba as its running mate for the Rivers State governorship election in 2027.
The announcement was made public on Tuesday, by the state party chairman, Chukwudi Dimgba.
Under this arrangement, Okumgba will share the electoral ticket with the party’s standard-bearer and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Gabriel Pidomson.
In detailing the choice, the party leadership highlighted Okumgba’s extensive background in regional politics and grassroots organisation.
His past administrative roles include serving as the South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary for a major political party, alongside heading the appeal panel for senatorial primaries in Edo State.
Additionally, he has previously campaigned for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Dimgba framed the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket as an administrative partnership designed to offer competent and inclusive governance focused on accountability, economic advancement, security, and equal public opportunities.
He urged party faithful and residents across the state to rally behind the newly formed ticket ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Gabriel Pidomson, is the party’s governorship candidate.
He emerged in May after the primary election held across the 319 wards in the state.
Pidomson polled 112,068 votes to defeat five other aspirants in the exercise held across the 23 local government areas of the state.
