The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSCON) has raised alarm over an alleged plot by powerful oil cabals to sabotage crude oil pipeline operations in the Niger Delta.
In an open letter dated June, the group urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately investigate the scheme aimed at frustrating the pipeline surveillance contract.
HOSCON Chairman, His Majesty Obukowho Monday Whiskey, Udurhie I, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, signed the letter.
The group said intelligence from credible sources in Abuja and the Niger Delta revealed that some influential figures at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are deliberately starving the surveillance outfit of funds.
The letter claimed this delay left staff and subcontractors of Tantita Security Services Limited unpaid for nearly four months. It added that the situation caused grumbling and threats of industrial action among workers.
HOSCON warned that such actions could trigger disorder and avoidable crisis in the region.
The group praised Tantita for its sacrifices and condemned attempts to undermine the company.
“We strongly condemn these new plots,” the letter stated.
“No interest of individuals or groups can be more important than that of the entire country.”
The communities pledged to continue exposing any underhand activities. They called on all patriotic Nigerians, including NNPCL management, to support the surveillance effort.
