The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Rivers South-East Senatorial Bye-Election, Senator Olaka Nwogu, has raised concerns over challenges associated with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the election, while also commending the smooth conduct of voting at his polling unit in Alesa Community.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Ward 1, Unit 2, Alesa, Nwogu described the process at his polling unit as peaceful, orderly, and well-organized. He praised election officials for their professionalism and the seamless accreditation of voters in the area.
The PDP candidate, however, noted that reports from other polling units indicated that some voters experienced difficulties with BVAS machines, resulting in delays and challenges during the accreditation process. According to him, such technical issues remain a concern because they can discourage voter participation and prevent some eligible citizens from exercising their democratic rights with ease.
