Greg Etafia, who used to be the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles is not happy with the decision made by the head coach Eric Chelle to leave Stanley Nwabali out of the Unity Cup squad. Greg Etafia thinks that even if Stanley Nwabali was the fourth choice it would have been good for him to get an invitation.
The 29 years old Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been without a club since he left Chippa United in South Africa in February. This is a change for him because he did very well at the AFCON in Morocco, where Nigeria came in third place and now Stanley Nwabali is not sure what is going to happen with his career.
While speaking to Brila Fm, Greg Etafia said that bringing Stanley Nwabali into the team was not just about playing games it was about helping a player who has done a lot for the national team.
No doubt that every player wants to play, Stanley Nwabali is no different. Unfortunately some things did not go well for him at Chippa United and now he does not have a club though there are clubs that are looking at him.
Greg Etafia said: Stanley Nwabali has done a lot for the team in the past so the coaches should have called him to train with the team for the Unity Cup. Even if he was not one of the three goalkeepers they could have made him the fourth one. He knows he would not have played in the games but the training would have helped him a lot.
”Stanley Nwabali will play next season, he is a very good goalkeeper and he has done very well for the Nigerian national team, in the two AFCON tournaments he has played. He is the no. 1 goalkeeper but because he does not have a club right now the coaches think they have other options and they want to give other players a chance.”
