Rivers United technical adviser Phinidi George has grown interested in what could be the most important game of the membership season, as the Port Harcourt side prepares for the crucial final day clash against Katsina United
The Pride of Rivers boosted their confidence ahead of Sunday’s arrival with a 2-0 victory over non-league side G12 FC in the round of 64 of the Presidents’ Union Cup in Benin City on Tuesday. But there is little time for Finidi to have a good time.
The former Super Eagles winger says he is now firmly interested in the Nigeria Premier Football League title race, despite the controversy surrounding Rivers United, who are moving into the final round of the suit
“I am very pleased with the performance of my players towards the G12 of the Academy side,” Finidi advised the club’s media team.
“The game is gone and my recognition is in the league suit against Katsina United.”
Sunday’s game in Port Harcourt is of great importance. Rivers United have to beat Katsina United and the leaders want Rangers fail to stabilize most of the points away to Ikorodu City in Lagos to stand any threat of raising the identity.
Only one factor separates both sides at the top, leaving the championship race delicately poised heading into the final day.
For Rivers United supporters, the stakes may rarely want to be better. Victory in itself might not be enough, but anything less could immediately turn their hopes away.
After months of protest, the NPFL title battle will now come down to one final push, with Rivers United chasing their second league crown in membership records.
