Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has promised to boost the provision of electricity in the country through upgrading its transmission lines and ensuring bulk electricity delivery with improved reliability.
This pledge was delivered by Managing Director Sule Abdulaziz at his maiden town hall engagement with staff after his appointment for the second term of five years by President Bola Tinubu. According to him, the fresh mandate is an opportunity to reform the sector within the framework of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the new administration.
According to Abdulaziz, TCN is determined to deliver an efficient, sustainable, and stable transmission system that can satisfy Nigeria’s power needs. He further stated that the company has made some achievements over time, recording an increase in the ability of the grid to wheel electricity from 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to more than 8,700 megawatts.
In his view, the growth has been fueled by investments in infrastructure, which include the use of transformers and successful transmission projects across the country. Additionally, he said that programs funded by donors like the World Bank and African Development Bank have contributed towards improving grid capacities.
The TCN managing director said that the introduction of transformers and other improvements have increased grid stability and minimized power system disturbances. According to him, rehabilitating old and worn out equipment and improving maintenance would help improve performances.
“Our focus in the next stage will be on translating our infrastructure development into continuous power supply to Nigerians,” he said. “Our target will be to ensure continuous bulk supply of power, which can then be distributed by the distribution companies.”
TCN management encouraged the staff to keep up the good work and continue their collaborations.
