NLNG Commissions 6.5-Ton Gas Dispensing Facility in Rumuji

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has inaugurated a 6.5-ton gas dispensing facility in Rumuji, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, delivering a significant boost to local energy access and environmental sustainability.

The project, executed under the NLNG Global Memoranda of Understanding (GMoU) framework in collaboration with the Rumuji Cluster Development Foundation (RCDF), offers residents a safer and cleaner cooking fuel alternative to traditional firewood and kerosene.

Officials highlighted that the facility addresses everyday energy needs by providing easier, more reliable access to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)-equivalent cooking gas, thereby reducing health risks and deforestation linked to biomass burning.

This initiative forms part of NLNG’s wider community development commitments in Rumuji. Complementary efforts include road infrastructure upgrades, principal housing projects, scholarships awarded to 29 students, and empowerment programs benefiting 200 women farmers to foster economic resilience and long-term prosperity.

NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, described the facility as a product of strong teamwork and a step toward consolidated sustainable progress in host communities.

The body reiterated its commitment to collaborative partnerships that enable communities to drive their own development trajectories.

The company congratulated Rumuji residents on achieving this advancement toward grassroots, eco-friendly growth.

The commissioning aligns with NLNG’s broader strategy to promote clean energy adoption, reduce reliance on polluting fuels, and support host community welfare across its operational areas.

Industry stakeholders view the project as a model for integrating corporate social responsibility with practical energy solutions in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
