Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday February 26 swore in Dr Dagogo Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff, Government House, with a stern warning against unauthorised political engagements.
Governor Fubara charged his newly appointed Chief of Staff, Barrister Sunny Ewule, to refrain from holding any external political meetings or engaging in outside political activities without his express permission.
The Governor who also inaugurated Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma, a Mathematics lecturer, as the new Secretary to the State Government, emphasised that the Chief of Staff’s role is strictly to serve as his personal aide and advance the administration’s objectives.
“The position of Chief of Staff is not for politicking. Do not hold meetings or engage in external political activities without my permission,” the governor declared.
He described the appointments as a call to service rather than political empowerment, urging the appointees to discharge their duties with professionalism, thoroughness, and without politicizing their offices.

Addressing Dr Wokoma specifically, Fubara noted his academic background, saying: “As a Mathematics lecturer, bring your experience to ensure objectivity, thoroughness, and respectful representation of the state government in all dealings.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining ongoing projects, advancing inherited programmes, and prioritising the peace, success, and prosperity of Rivers State.
He warned that any action capable of embarrassing the government would not be tolerated, adding that he would closely monitor the performance and activities of the new appointees.
“I have confidence in my choices. These are the right people to support our goals,” Fubara stated.
At the event, the governor also directed permanent secretaries who have retired but remain in office to prepare their handover notes immediately.
He called for full cooperation across the civil service, stressing that the remaining period of his administration must focus on productive work and collective success for the state.
The appointments come amid ongoing administrative restructuring in Rivers State, following recent developments in the political landscape.
